AbbVie's Neuroscience Franchise: What to Expect Ahead of Q3 Results

Although immunology remains AbbVie’s ABBV largest revenue-generating franchise, neuroscience is emerging as another important growth driver. Spanning psychiatry, migraine and Parkinson’s disease (PD), the franchise offers multiple avenues for expansion through established treatments and newer products. Investors will be keen to know how the segment performed in the third quarter when the company announces results on Oct. 30.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for AbbVie’s neuroscience revenues in the third quarter of 2026 is pegged at $3.29 billion. The figure implies year-over-year growth of nearly 16%, with growth expected across most marketed products.

A Closer Look at ABBV’s Neuroscience Drugs

AbbVie’s established brands, Vraylar and Botox Therapeutic, are expected to remain significant contributors to neuroscience revenues. Vraylar is used to treat several psychiatric conditions, while Botox Therapeutic has multiple approved uses, including chronic migraine prevention, spasticity and cervical dystonia. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Vraylar sales is pegged at $1.08 billion, while the same for Botox stands at $1.07 billion.

Turning to the oral migraine portfolio, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for Ubrelvy sales is pinned at $393 million, while that for Qulipta is pegged at $364 million. Ubrelvy is used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, whereas Qulipta is indicated for migraine prevention.

Among the newer products, Vyalev is projected to generate $283 million in revenues, up from $256 million generated in the previous quarter. AbbVie expects the PD therapy to achieve blockbuster status in 2026 as domestic uptake accelerates.

Meanwhile, AbbVie received FDA approval for Juvmo, a once-daily oral treatment for PD, in late September. Given the timing of the approval — just days before the end of the third quarter — the drug is unlikely to make a meaningful contribution to revenues during the period. Investors will likely look for management commentary on the initial launch and early uptake.

Other Players in the Neuroscience Space

AbbVie faces competition from large-cap biotech/pharmaceutical companies in the market, which include Biogen BIIB and Johnson & JohnsonJNJ.

As revenues from its legacy multiple sclerosis portfolio continue to decline, Biogen is increasingly focused on expanding its neuroscience business through newer therapies. Along with partner Eisai, Biogen markets Leqembi, one of the two FDA-approved treatments for AD. The company also markets Zurzuvae, the first FDA-approved oral treatment for postpartum depression.

J&J's neuroscience business is anchored by the blockbuster depression therapy Spravato and long-acting antipsychotic Invega Sustenna. The company's acquisition of Intra-Cellular Therapies last year further strengthened its portfolio by adding Caplyta, an approved treatment for schizophrenia and bipolar depression.
